Ingredients

  • 8 - 10 bread slices - Bread crumbs
  • 3 - green chillies, finely chopped
  • 1 - medium sized onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp - Mustard Seeds
  • 1 tsp - Cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp - turmeric/haldi powder
  • Juice of 1 Lemon
  • 3-4 - curry leaves/kadipatta
  • 2 tsp - - oil
  • 1 tsp - Sugar
  • finely chopped coriander/dhania
  • salt to taste

How to Make Lemony Bread Upma

  • To make bread crumbs, you can either crumble the bread slices with fingers or in a mixer/food processor on low speed (not more than 20 secs, otherwise it will turn into powder).
  • Heat oil in a pan, add mustard and cumin seeds.
  • After they splutter, add the finely chopped green chillies and onion.
  • Add turmeric powder and curry leaves.
  • After the onions and cook till it becomes translucent, and later add water. (not much, such that water forms a thin layer above the onions)
  • Now, add the bread crumbs.
  • Mix it with the other ingredients.
  • Close the pan with a lid.
  • Keep it for 3-4 minutes so that a few becomes crispy and rest remains soft.
  • Then squeeze the lemon and add sugar and salt.
  • Garnish with finely chopped coriander.
