Ingredients

  • 1 cup - soaked and cooked black eyed beans
  • 2 cups - long grain Rice (soaked for 1/2 an hour)
  • 4 tbsp - oil
  • Spices:
  • 1 - Bay Leaf
  • 6 - Cardamoms
  • 6 - Cloves
  • 3 inch - thick piece of Cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp - Caraway seeds
  • 1 - nut meg
  • 1 - strand Mace
  • 1 - star flower
  • Green masala
  • 1 cup - tightly packed Coriander leaves
  • 1 inch - Ginger
  • 4 Cloves - Garlic
  • 4 - Green chillies
  • 1 - onion, cubed
  • 3 inch piece - Cinnamon
  • 10 - Cloves
  • Salt as per taste
  • How to Make Lobia biryani:

    1. Grind the green masala ingredients to smooth paste.
    2. Heat oil in a pressure cooker and saute the spices for 2 mins, add green masala and fry for 3 mins.
    3. Add the beans, saute for a while and add 1.5 cups of water and allow it cook on a medium flame. This takes about 30 mins
    4. To this, add 3 cups of water, bring the water to a boil, then add the rice, salt, mix well and pressure cook on a low flame for 1 whistle.
