Ingredients

  • 1/2 kg - mutton
  • 2 cup - onion, sliced
  • 1/2 cup - grated coconut
  • 4 to 6 dry red chillies
  • 4 to 6 green chillies
  • 8 cloves garlic
  • 5 tbsp - oil
  • 1 tbsp - coriander seeds
  • 1 tsp - black pepper corns
  • 1 tbsp - fennel seeds (Saunf)
  • 2 cm ginger
  • 2 pieces cinnamon
  • salt to taste

How to Make Madras Mutton Curry

  • Wash mutton and squeeze out all the water. Cut into 3 cm cubes.
  • Heat 1 tsp of oil in small fry pan and roast coriander, pepper, fennel and red chillies.
  • Transfer the roasted ingredients to a plate.
  • Roast the coconut in the same fry pan.
  • Grind all these together to a smooth paste.
  • Grind green chillies, garlic and ginger together.
  • Heat the remaining oil in a pressure cooker / pan.
  • Add cinnamon and onion.
  • Fry till onion is golden brown.
  • Add mutton and fry till it turns brown.
  • Add green chilli Masala and fry for 1 minute.
  • Add red chilli Masala and fry for 2 minutes.
  • Add tomato and cook till it becomes mushy.
  • Add salt and 1 and a half cup of hot water. Pressure cook for 15 minutes.
  • Serve with steamed rice.
