Ingredients

  • Masoor dal- 1/2 cup
  • Powdered jaggery- 1/4 cup
  • Milk- 1/2 cup
  • Cardamom powder- 1/2 tsp
  • Coconut pieces- a few
  • Ghee- 1 tsp
  • Cashew nuts- a few

How to Make Masoor Dal Payasam

  • In a pan add litle ghee and add massor dal.
  • Roast till golden brown and gives away nice aroma.
  • Add water and pressure cook for 4 whistles.
  • Mash it well and keep it aside.
  • In a pan add jaggery and little water just to immerse it.
  • Once it starts bubbling away, add cooked dal.
  • Add milk and cardamom powder. Let it thicken.
  • In a pan add ghee and add cashew nuts.
  • Roast till golden and add it to the payasam. Add coconut pieces now.
  • Serve hot or cold as you wish!
