Ingredients

  • 1.5 cup - mixed dal (Tuar, Masoor, Urad, Moong and Chana dal in equal quantity)
  • 1 - large Onion (chopped)
  • 2 tsp - Garlic (chopped)
  • 2 - Tomatoes (chopped)
  • 2 - Green chilli (chopped)
  • 1 tsp - Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp - Red Chilli powder (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp - desi Ghee
  • salt to taste
  • For Tadka (Tempering):
  • 1/2 tbsp - desi Ghee (clarified butter)
  • a pinch - Asafoetida
  • 3 - whole Red Chillies
  • How to Make Mixed Dal Fry:

    1. Soak mix dal for one hour. Heat desi ghee in a pressure cooker. Put chopped onions, garlic and green chilli and fry for two minutes.
    2. Add chopped tomatoes and fry for a min
    3. Add dal, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, salt and adjust water.
    4. Close the lid and cook for 6 whistles.
    5. When cooked, add tadka.
    6. Serve hot roti or rice.
