Ingredients

  • Fresh Cabbage -1/2 Kg
  • Potato - 1 (Big)
  • Tuar Dhal - 100 g
  • Grated Coconut - 100 g
  • Cumin Seeds - 1 tsp
  • Dry Red Chillies - 2
  • Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Mustard - 1/2 tsp
  • Cooking Oil - 1 tsp (for seasoning)
  • Curry leaves - 8 to 10 (for garnishing)
  • Salt to taste

How to Make Molakootal

  • Chop the cabbage finely and dice the potato into small cubes and keep aside.
  • Wash tuar dal and pressure cook it.
  • Add turmeric powder and salt to the cut vegetables and cook separately till fully cooked.
  • Make a paste of grated coconut along with cumin seeds and dry red chillies.
  • Add pressure cooked tuar dhal and the paste to the cooked vegetables.
  • Half a glass of water could be added if the stew is too thick.
  • Stir all the contents and allow this mixture to simmer for 5 mins. Do not let it boil.
  • Garnish molakootal with curry leaves and season it with mustard and cooking oil.
  • Seasoning:
  • Take a spoon of cooking oil in a small pan and heat it on low flame.
  • | Allow the mustard seeds to splutter in hot oil and pour this into the molakootal.
