Ingredients

  • 50 - sardines
  • 10 - chillies
  • 10 - ginger
  • 10 flakes - garlic
  • 2 tsp - cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp - mustard seed
  • 1 - kuskus
  • 1/2 inch - turmeric
  • 10 flakes garlic
  • 1 inch - ginger
  • 3/4 cup - coconut fresh
  • 1/2 cup - oil For frying
  • 3 - onions
  • 2 tbsp - vinegar

How to Make Molee Fish Pickle

  • Slit the green chillies.
  • Also slice half of the garlic and ginger.
  • For ground masala:
  • Grind cumin, mustard seed, kuskus, turmeric, garlic and ginger.
  • Coconut Milk:
  • Grind the coconut and extract coconut milk.
  • For seasoning:
  • Slice onions and fry them in half cup of oil in a vessel large enough to hold the fish pieces.
  • Add the ground masala and fry till the raw smell goes.
  • Add in 2 tbsps of vinegar. Let it cook for five minutes.
  • Add the sliced masala (green chillies, sliced garlic and ginger) and fry a little more.
  • Now place the fish in the vessel and simmer for a while on low fire. Do not stir with a spoon.
  • Add the coconut milk last.
  • Do not cover the pan after the coconut milk is added because it tends to curdle.
  • When done, remove from fire.
