Ingredients

  • Moong dal- 1 cup
  • Powdered jaggery- 1/2 cup
  • Cardamom powder- 1/2 tsp
  • Grated coconut- 1/3 cup
  • Ghee- 1 tsp
  • For the outer dough:
  • Maida- 1 cup
  • Oil- 1 tsp
  • Water- as needed

How to Make Moong Dal Obbattu

  • Make a soft dough using maida, water and oil. Set it aside.
  • Meanwhile soak moong dal in water for 15 minutes. Pressure cook until soft.
  • In a pan add cooked moong dal, powdered jaggery, grated coconut and cardamom powder.
  • Add ghee and mix well and cook till it forms a uniform stuffing.
  • Make small lemon sized balls out of the maida dough.
  • Take a ball an flatten it with your hand.
  • Take a small part of the moong dal stuffing and keep it in the centre of the flattened maida ball.
  • Close it and once again flatten to shape it like a roti.
  • Once done, place it in a tawa which is heated with a little ghee.
  • Cook on both sides till brown spots are formed.
  • Serve it hot with dollops of ghee.
