Ingredients

  • Cabbage - 1, medium sized
  • Chickpeas - 1.5 cups
  • Coconut - 3/4 cup, grated
  • Jeera - 2 tsp
  • Red Chillies - 2 or 3
  • Salt to taste
  • Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
  • For seasoning:
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
  • White Urad Dal - 1 tsp
  • A few Curry leaves
  • Coriander leaves (optional)
  • How to Make Muttai kodu kootu:

    1. Wash and soak the chickpeas with plenty of water overnight.
    2. Next day, pressure cook with a little salt and keep aside.
    3. Chop the cabbage finely.
    4. Boil it in salt water and turmeric powder. Keep aside.
    5. Grind grated coconut, jeera, and red chillies into a paste.
    6. In a pan, heat oil and roast the ingredients for the seasoning.
    7. Add the boiled cabbage, chickpeas, and coconut paste.
    8. Boil till the kootu becomes thick and the dal and cabbage go soft.
    9. Serve hot with rice.
