Ingredients

  • 1/2 kg - mutton
  • 8 tbsp - tuvar dal
  • 2 tsp - masur dal
  • 1 big piece red pumpkin
  • 2 small potatoes
  • 4 small tomatoes
  • 2 medium sized onion
  • 2 green chillies
  • 1/2 tsp - turmeric powder
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 bunch methi leaves, chopped
  • 2 brinjals
  • To be ground:
  • 1.5 tsp - cumin seeds
  • 2 tsp - coriander seeds
  • 2.5 cm piece ginger
  • 2 red chillies
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 2 tbsp - vinegar

How to Make Mutton dhansak

  • Clean and cut the mutton into square pieces.
  • Heat a pressure cooker and add the mutton, dals, vegetables cut into fairly large pieces, salt, chillies and turmeric.
  • Cook till meat and dals are soft.
  • Remove the cooker and take out the meat pieces.
  • Mash the dals and vegetables well till smooth.
  • Heat a pan and add 2 tbsp - oil.
  • Add the chopped onion and ground ingredients. Fry till pink in colour.
  • Add the meat and fry well.
  • Add the mashed vegetables and dals.
  • Reduce the heat and simmer on a slow fire.
  • Serve after adding a little lime juice.
