How to Make Mutton in Poppy Seed Sauce

  • Rub the mutton with onion paste, garlic paste, ginger paste, chilli powder, yogurt and turmeric.
  • Set aside to marinate for at least 4 hours, ideally overnight, in a refrigerator.
  • Heat the oil in a pressure cooker, add the sugar and then the mutton with its marinade. Cook for 5 mins.
  • After 5 mins, add salt and 1/4 cup of water. Close the pressure cooker lid and cook for 15 minutes.
  • Then take the lid off and add the green chillies, posto (poppy seed) paste, coconut paste and mustard paste.
  • Let the mutton simmer for 5-10 minutes.
  • If you wish, you may drizzle a tbsp of mustard oil.
  • Serve hot with rice.
