Ingredients

  • For Oothappam:
  • 2 cups - Rava (Sooji)
  • 1 cup - Rice flour
  • 1/2 cup - Urad flour
  • 5 - Green Chillies, finely chopped
  • 1 - Onions; big, cut into very small pieces
  • 1 cup - Cilantro
  • 3 cups - Curd (preferably sour)
  • Salt to taste
  • For Cilantro Chutney:
  • 2 cups - Cilantro,
  • 2 tsp - Channa dal
  • 5 - Red Chillies (or green)
  • Salt to taste

How to Make Oothappam and Cilantro Chutney

  • Chutney:
  • Fry the channa dal and red chillies in two tsp of oil.
  • Chop the cilantro, add the tamarind and roasted channa dal, salt and grind it fine.
  • For uthappam:
  • Make a smooth flowing batter of rava, rice and urad flour, by adding only curd.
  • Use more curd to dilute the consistency if required.
  • Add to it the chopped chillies and onions.
  • Add salt as required.
  • Spread the batter (not too thinly) on a heated tawa and add oil on the sides.
  • Roll it over after a while and add some more oil.
  • Once the uthappam is cooked, serve it with the hot cilantro chutney.
