  • 2 cups - Parboiled Rice (puzhungalarisi)
  • 1-1.5 cups - Fresh grated coconut
  • 1/2 tbsp - Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tbsp - Urud dhal
  • 1/2 tbsp - Channa dhal
  • 2-3 - Red Chillies
  • Curry leaves
  • Salt to taste

How to Make Parboiled Rice Kozhukkattai

  • Soak the rice in water for 2 hours. Drain the water and grind the rice with coconut in a blender, adding a little water to it.
  • Make it into a fine paste and add salt to the mix.
  • Heat oil in a thick-bottom vessel. Add mustard seeds, urud dal and channa dal.
  • After the seeds crackle, add red chillies and curry leaves to it. Then, pour the dough and keep stirring in medium heat till it becomes thick.
  • Remove from stove, prepare oval balls (shape of an egg) from this and steam cook in idli pan (15-20 minutes).
  • Remove from stove and the kozhukkattai is ready to be served with chutney and sambhar.
