Ingredients

  • 1 cup - tur dal.
  • 3 - green chillies.
  • 1 tbsp - finely chopped onion.
  • 1 tbsp - finely chopped tomato.
  • 3 - Garlic pods crushed.
  • 1 tsp - Ginger paste.
  • 1 tsp - chopped coriander leaves.
  • 1 tsp - crushed roasted cashews.
  • A pinch of turmeric.
  • A pinch of asafoetida.
  • 1 tbsp - oil.
  • Salt to taste.
  • How to Make Paruppu Sambar:

    1. Pressure cook the tuvar dal and keep aside.
    2. Heat oil in a kadai and saute the onions.
    3. Add the green chillies, garlic, ginger paste and tomatoes and cook for 2 mins.
    4. Add the cooked dal, turmeric and asafoetida. Add water as desired and cook for another 3 mins.
    5. Add salt.
    6. Garnish with cashews and coriander leaves.
    7. Serve hot with rice.
