  • 6 cups - rich Mutton stock
  • 4 tbsp - Butter
  • 2 cups - Onion
  • 6 slices - bread
  • salt and pepper
  • ground cheese

How to Make Plain French Onion Soup

  • Melt butter. Add thinly sliced onions. Brown these evenly, then add the mutton stock, salt and pepper.
  • Allow it to simmer for 15 mins.
  • Spread butter lightly in 6 slices of bread and cut into squares.
  • Sprinkle ground cheese on them and grill.
  • Pour soup into bowls and float bread squares in each.
  • Sprinkle additional ground cheese and serve piping hot.
