Ingredients

  • Basmati rice - 1 cup
  • Mint - 100 g
  • Coriander leaves - 100 g
  • Garlic - 10 cloves
  • Ginger - 1 inch
  • Onion chopped - 1 cup
  • Peas - 1/2 cup
  • Capsicum chopped - 1/2 cup
  • Mustard - 1 tsp
  • Chenna dal - 1 tsp
  • Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp -
  • Garam masala powder - 1 tsp
  • Oil - 4 tbsp for frying
  • Salt to taste

How to Make Plain Mint Rice

  • Wash and cook rice with 1.5 cup of water and set aside.
  • Clean and wash mint and coriander leaves. Grind them into a paste in a mixer.
  • In a frying pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds.
  • After it splutters, add chenna dal, garlic, chopped onion, chopped ginger and fry till onion is golden brown.
  • Then, add capsicum and peas and fry again till capsicum is soft.
  • Now, add salt and turmeric powder over this.
  • Add the red chilli powder, cook till the raw smell vanishes and oil separates.
  • Add mint and coriander paste over this and cook for a minute.
  • Over this, add the garam masala and mix well.
  • Over this gravy spread the cooked rice and mix well.
  • Serve hot with onion raita.
