Ingredients

  • 2 cups - diced chow-chow pieces.
  • 1/2 cup - Bengal Gram dal.
  • Salt as required.
  • .
  • For seasoning:
  • 2 tsp - oil.
  • 1/4 tsp - mustard seeds.
  • .
  • Grind together:
  • 6 red chillies.
  • 1 tsp - cumin seeds.
  • 1 tsp - black gram dal.
  • Fry the above in little oil and grind with 1/4 cup of grated fresh coconut.

How to Make Poricha Kootu

  • Scrape the outer skin and dice into 1 inch cubes. Cook it along with Bengal gram dal with enough water till dal becomes soft to touch.
  • Add the ground paste, salt and cook till the gravy becomes thick.
  • Heat oil, add the seasonings and mix it with kootu.
  • Garnish with curry leaves.
  • Serve hot with cooked rice.
