Ingredients

  • 2 cups - diced chow-chow pieces.
  • 1/2 cup - Bengal Gram dal.
  • Salt as required.
  • .
  • For seasoning:
  • 2 tsp - oil.
  • 1/4 tsp - mustard seeds.
  • .
  • Grind together:
  • 6 red chillies.
  • 1 tsp - cumin seeds.
  • 1 tsp - black gram dal.
  • Fry the above in little oil and grind with 1/4 cup of grated fresh coconut.
  • How to Make Poricha Kootu:

    1. Scrape the outer skin and dice into 1 inch cubes. Cook it along with Bengal gram dal with enough water till dal becomes soft to touch.
    2. Add the ground paste, salt and cook till the gravy becomes thick.
    3. Heat oil, add the seasonings and mix it with kootu.
    4. Garnish with curry leaves.
    5. Serve hot with cooked rice.
