Ingredients

  • 1/2 kg - prawns, peeled and de-veined.
  • 200 gm - button mushrooms.
  • 8 to 10 - dried red chillies.
  • 2 tsp - coriander seeds.
  • 1 tsp - cumin seeds.
  • 1/2 tsp - fenugreek.
  • 1/2 tsp - black pepper corns.
  • 1.5 cup - grated coconut.
  • 1/2 tsp - Turmeric powder.
  • 1 cup - onion, chopped finely.
  • 2 cm round ball - tamarind.
  • 3 tbsp - oil.
  • salt to taste.
  • How to Make Prawn and Mushroom Gasi:

    1. Roast red chillies, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, fenugreek and pepper corns in 2 tsp of oil.
    2. Grind these with grated coconut and tamarind to a very smooth paste.
    3. Add about 1 cup of water to the ground paste and heat till it boils.
    4. Add prawns, mushrooms, salt, turmeric and simmer gently till the prawns and mushrooms are cooked.
    5. Heat 3 tbsp of oil and fry onion till golden brown.
    6. Add to the gasi and mix well.
    7. Serve hot with steamed rice.
