Ingredients

  • 12 - Wheat bread slices
  • 3 - Potatoes (peeled, boiled and mashed)
  • 1 - Onion (finely chopped)
  • 1/3 cup - peas (optional)
  • 2 - green chillies, finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp - Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp - coriander
  • 1 tsp - cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp - Garam Masala powder
  • 1/2 tsp - chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp - Mustard Seed
  • 1 tsp - Urad Dal
  • Asafoetida, a pinch
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tsp - oil (plus more for deep frying)
  • How to Make Quick Bread bonda:

    1. To make the filling: Boil the potatoes, peel it and mash well.
    2. In a pan, heat 2 tsp of oil and season with mustard, urad dal, green chillies and asafoetida.
    3. Then add the finely chopped onions along with turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala and salt.
    4. Once the onions are sauteed well, add the peas and cook for a couple of more minutes.
    5. Then add the mashed potatoes and sprinkle just enough water to make a dry filling.
    6. Keep it aside to cool .
    7. Take each bread slice, scoop a tbsp of filling in its centre and close to seal with your fist.
    8. Deep fry the bread bondas till golden brown.
    9. Drain on absorbent paper and serve with ketchup.
