Ingredients

  • 1/2 kg - good salt fish, cut into small bits
  • 3 tbsp - chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp - Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp - mustard powder
  • 1 tsp - cumin powder
  • 1/4 tbsp - Nutmeg powder
  • 1 tbsp - chopped Ginger
  • 1 tbsp - chopped Garlic
  • 2 tbsp - salt
  • 1 cup - sesame oil (til oil)
  • 1 cup - Vinegar
  • 1 tsp - powdered Fenugreek seeds
  • How to Make Salt Fish Pickle:

    1. Wash the salt fish well and leave it to dry, for some time.
    2. Smear the turmeric powder on the salt fish.
    3. Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a pan and fry the salt fish, till golden brown. Keep aside.
    4. In another pan, heat the remaining oil, till smoky. Then turn off the heat.
    5. Add all the other ingredients, the fried salt fish and mix well.
    6. Store in bottles when cold.
