  • Toor Dal - 1 cup
  • any vegetables of ur choice like drumsticks, white pumpkin,red pumpkin,potato,onion,capsicum etc. either single or in combination
  • Imli or Tamarind paste - 1 tsp
  • turmeric- 1 tsp
  • LG powder(hing)- a pinch
  • green chillies- 4
  • Dhania -1 tbsp
  • Chana dal- 1 tbsp
  • methi- 1/2 tsp
  • jeera- 1/2 tsp
  • tomato- 1
  • salt to taste
  • Jaggery or Sugar - 1tsp For Tadka: Oil -2 tbsp
  • mustard seeds- ?tsp
  • Methi seeds-1/2 tsp
  • curry leaves- few
  • coriander leaves- for garnishing
  • How to Make Sambhar (Without Coconut):

    1. Wash tuvar dal and soak for 1 hour after adding haldi powder and l.g powder.
    2. In a kadhai, heat one tbsp oil, fry chillies, dhania, chana dal, methi and jeera seeds. Grind to a paste with tomato and water. Keep aside.
    3. Heat a pressure cooker. Add a tsp oil. Give a tadka of mustard seeds, methi seeds and a few curry leaves.
    4. Add vegetables and fry for 1 minute add some water and tamarind paste .
    5. Add salt to taste, jaggery,and soaked dal. Now add masala paste and mix well.
    6. Add sufficient water for dal to cook. Give two or three whistles as is necessary for dal to cook.
    7. Serve hot garnished with coriander leaves.
