Ingredients

  • 1 cup plain all purpose flour (maida)
  • ½ tsp. baking soda
  • 2 tbsp. Sugar
  • 1 Egg
  • 6 tbsp. water
  • 1 tbsp. sesame seeds
  • 2 apples
  • ½ fresh pineapple, cubed
  • Vegetable oil for deep frying
  • Salt
  • Fresh Mint sprigs and lychees to decorate
  • 2 tbsp. clear Honey to serve

How to Make Sesame Fried Fruits

  • Sift the flour, baking soda and a pinch of salt into a bowl. Stir in the sugar.
  • Whisk in the egg and just enough water to make a thin batter.
  • Then whisk in the sesame seeds.
  • Peel the apples. Cut them into quarters and remove the core and pips, halve these pieces.
  • Don’t do this until you are ready to cook them, because once peeled, they will quickly discolour.
  • Heat the oil in a wok, or deep fryer until a cube of bread dropped in the oil browns in about 45 seconds.
  • Dip the fruit pieces in the batter; then gently drop a few pieces at a time into the hot oil.
  • Fry until golden brown.
  • Remove the fruits from the oil and drain on kitchen paper.
  • Decorate with mint sprigs and lychees and serve immediately with clear honey.
