Ingredients

  • 250 g - thin Rice Sevia
  • 4 - Onions
  • 2 - Tomatoes
  • 1 - Lime
  • 10 - medium sized Green chillies
  • 1/2 bunch - Coriander leaves
  • 20 - Curry leaves
  • 1 tsp - Mustard Seeds
  • 1 tsp - Channa Dal
  • 1 tsp - Urad Dal
  • A pinch - Turmeric
  • A pinch - Asafoetida
  • 2 tbsp - Oil
  • How to Make Shavige Uppittu:

    1. Break the lengthy sevia into pieces and keep it aside.
    2. Cut onions, tomatoes, chillies, coriander leaves into small pieces.
    3. Heat oil in a pan, sputter mustard seeds, add urad dal, channa dal, curry leaves, coriander leaves, turmeric and asafoetida.
    4. Then add onions and fry them until just before reaching golden brown colour.
    5. Now add tomatoes and fry them until done.
    6. Add sevia pieces to this preparation, mix salt as required and add 2 cups water and close the lid and cook it under low flame for 10 mins.
    7. When the sevia is tender, squeeze lime juice and serve hot.
    8. This serves as light breakfast
