Ingredients

  • 3 big potatoes
  • 700 g - minced meat
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1-2 cups - chopped vegetables (carrots, beans, corn, peas)
  • 8 tbsp - butter
  • 1/2 cup - stock/broth
  • 1 tsp - Worcestershire sauce
  • salt to taste
  • pepper to taste

How to Make Shepherd's Pie-Cottage Pie

  • Cook the potatoes in salted water till tender.
  • Heat a pan and melt 4 tablespoons of butter.
  • Saute onions in butter until tender over medium heat (10 minutes).
  • If you are adding vegetables, add them according to cooking time.
  • Put any carrots in with the onions.
  • Add corn or peas either at the end of the cooking of the onions or after the meat has been initially cooked.
  • Add minced meat and saute until no longer pink.
  • Add salt and pepper. Add Worcestershire sauce.
  • Add half a cup of stock/broth and cook uncovered over low heat for 10 minutes, adding more stock/broth as necessary to keep moist.
  • Mash potatoes in a bowl with the remainder of butter and season according to taste.
  • Spread the meat mixture in a baking dish. Spread the mashed potatoes evenly on top.
  • You can use the fork to make some designs on the potatoes. You can pipe in the potato mix as well.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 200 degree C for about 30 minutes or until bubbling and brown.
  • Serve hot.
