Ingredients

  • Soak
  • 200 g - Toor dal
  • 200 g- Channa dal (1:1 ratio)
  • 100 g - Moong dal
  • 50 g- Dried peanuts
  • 50 g - Almonds
  • 50 g- Urad dal
  • Soak all dals for 1 hour.
  • 3 - 4 - Red chillies
  • 1 tsp - Asafoetida
  • 2 sprigs - Curry leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • Onions -1-2, finely chopped
  • Green peas - 50 g
  • Ginger - 1 small piece, scraped
  • Fried cashews (optional)- 5-8

How to Make Simple Masala Vada

  • Soak all the dals for 1 hour.
  • Then coarse grind all the dals, with little water along with 3 or 4 red chillies, asafoetida, curry leaves and salt in a mixer or a food processor.
  • Now mix the ground dals with finely chopped onions, green peas, finely scraped ginger and the fried cashews .
  • Make small flat rounds of the mixture on your palm and keep aside.
  • Heat oil for deep frying in a pan and drop these rounds in the hot oil slowly and fry until brown on both the sides.
  • Remove the vadas and place in a paper towel to remove excess oil.
  • Serve hot with chutney.
