  • 1 cup - basmati Rice
  • 1 cup - peas
  • 1 - Onion
  • 2 to 3 - Cloves Garlic
  • 1 - Bay Leaf
  • 1 tsp - cumin
  • 4 to 5 - Cloves
  • 1/2 tsp - whole pepper
  • Toasted Cashew nuts for garnish (optional)
  • Sprigs of Cilantro and Mint for garnish
  • Salt to taste
  • How to Make Simple Peas Pulao:

    1. Soak the rice for 30 minutes in water.
    2. Heat some butter/ghee/oil in a non-stick pan and saute chopped onions along with bay leaf, cloves, pepper, garlic and cumin.
    3. Once the onions get soft, add the drained rice and saute for another 3-4 minutes till the rice becomes light pink.
    4. Add 2.5 cups water and salt, mix well and then close the lid and cook for another 5-8 minutes till the rice is 80 per cent cooked.
    5. Add the peas at this point and mix it gently along with the rice.
    6. Cook for another 5 minutes until done.
    7. Garnish with cashews, mint and cilantro.
    8. Serve hot with any side dish from simple raita to rich dishes like shahi paneer.
