Soak semolina and urad dal separately for 5 hours.
Grind the urad dal. Drain the water from the semolina.
Mix urad dal and semolina.
Add water to get a loose batter. Keep it overnight to let the batter rise.
Next day, steam idlis in an idli maker and serve.
