Ingredients

  • 1/8 cup - Urad Dal
  • 1 medium sized - Tomato
  • 6-7 - Shallots
  • 8-10 - Green chillies
  • Fresh coriander, a generous bunch
  • 1/2 cup - shredded Coconut (optional)
  • 1 tsp - Mustard Seeds (optional)
  • 1 tsp - salt
  • 1/2 cup - water
  • 5 tsp - oil
  • To temper:
  • 3 tsp - sesame oil
  • 1/2 tsp - Mustard Seeds
  • 1/2 tsp - Urad Dal (optional)
  • 1 sprig - Curry leaves
  • 1/8 tsp - hing/Asafoetida/Perungayam
  • How to Make Special Urad dal Chutney:

    1. Saute onions, chillies, urad dal, coconut, tomatoes and coriander.
    2. Grind sauted ingredients coarsely.
    3. Temper the chutney with the ingredients under tempering.
    4. Serve with idlis and dosas.
