Ingredients

  • 1 cup - Cabbage, shredded thinly
  • 1 cup - Sona Masoori Rice/Long Grain Rice/Basmati Rice
  • 2 - Green chillies, slit lengthwise
  • 1 - Onion, sliced thin lengthwise
  • 1-inch piece - Cinnamon stick
  • 2-3 - Cloves
  • 1/4 tsp - Jeera/Cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp - Ginger-garlic paste
  • 1/2 tsp - Haldi/Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp - Coriander powder
  • 2 cups - Water
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp + 1 tsp - Oil
  • 2 tbsp - Lemon juice

How to Make Spice scented Cabbage Rice

  • Wash and soak rice for 15 mins.
  • In a pressure cooker, add 2 tbsp oil.
  • Once hot add cloves, cinnamon and cumin seeds.
  • Now add ginger-garlic paste and fry till its rawness is gone.
  • Saute once and now add in the onions and saute again till translucent.
  • Once done, add green chillies and mix again.
  • Now add cabbage and then add turmeric powder and fry for a few minutes.
  • Now add rice to it and fry well again for another 2-3 minutes.
  • Now add coriander powder and mix well.
  • Now add water, salt to taste, 1 tsp of oil and lemon juice to it and close the lid and pressure cook for 3 whistles.
  • Once done, let the cooker cool down and serve.
