Ingredients

  • 250 gms - basmati rice or long grain rice, washed and soaked for at least 30 mins
  • 1 tbsp - oil
  • 4 cloves
  • 4 black peppercorns
  • 1 tsp - cumin seeds
  • 2.5 (1 inch) cinnamon stick
  • 3 cardamom pods, opened
  • 1 very small onion, sliced
  • 250 ml - (1/2 pt.) water
  • 2 tsp - salt

How to Make Spiced rice

  • Wash and soak the rice. Drain.
  • Heat oil and add all the spices and onion.
  • When the onion is soft, add the rice.
  • Add the water and salt; stir and bring to boil.
  • Lower heat, cover and simmer for 40 mins. until the rice is soft to touch.
