Ingredients

  • 6-10 - Arvi leaves
  • 2 cups - Rice soaked in water for 4-5 hours
  • 2 tbsps - Coriander seeds
  • 4-6 - Red Chillies
  • Tamarind soaked in water
  • Jaggery (According to taste)
  • 1/2 - Scraped Coconut
  • pinch of Turmeric
  • Salt according to taste
  • How to Make Steamed arvi:

    1. Clean the arvi leaves in running water and remove the stem. Keep it aside.
    2. Grind together coconut, jaggery, tamarind water, red chillies, rice, coriander seeds and turmeric to form a thick paste.
    3. Make sure that you don't add too much water as the paste has to be applied to leaves.
    4. Add salt according to taste to this paste.
    5. Take a arvi leaf and spread this paste on the leaf.
    6. Lay another leaf on top of the paste and again spread some paste. You can bind together 3-4 leaves like this.
    7. Make a roll and steam it.
    8. It takes at least 30-40 mins in a rice cooker for steaming.
    9. Serve them with butter or ghee.
    10. Variation :
    11. You can make slices of this roll when they are cooled. Then roast the rolls on a tawa with a little oil, browning on the both sides.
