  • 1 cup - Urad Dal
  • 1 cup - coconut, grated
  • 1.5 tsp - Coriander seeds (dhania)
  • 1/2 tsp - Fenugreek
  • 6 to 8 - Red Chillies
  • 1/2 Lime size - Tamarind
  • 1.5 tsp - Jaggery (brown sugar)
  • 2 tsp - cooking oil for deep frying
  • salt as required
  • How to Make Tasty Bajji Ambade:

    1. Soak urad dal for 4-6 hours and grind very fine in a wet grinder without adding any water but adding about a tsp of salt.
    2. Make a thick coarse paste.
    3. Make small vadas with a wet hand and deep fry in oil on a low flame till light brown.
    4. Keep these aside.
    5. Masala juice to soak vadas:
    6. In a kadai heat 2 tsp of cooking oil and fry 1.5 tsp of dhania, 1/2 tsp of fenugreek and 6 dry chillies.
    7. Once it is done turn off the stove and add one cup of grated coconut and grind all this mixture into a fine paste.
    8. In a kadai heat tamarind juice (dissolve tamarind in one cup of water).
    9. Add salt as needed and when the raw smell disappears, add the coconut paste, jaggery and one more cup of water.
    10. Bring it to boil and keep it aside.
    11. Soak the vadas in the above masala juice for about 30 minutes.
    12. Serve warm.
