How to Make Tomato Gozhu

  • Soak the tamarind for around 10 mins in water and keep it aside.
  • Take a little oil for tadka in a frying pan and pour all the tadka ingredients into it. Let it fry for a minute until the dal becomes red in colour.
  • Cut the onion into small pieces and fry it once the tadka is done, until it turns light brown in colour.
  • Cut the tomatoes into small pieces and add with the onions.
  • Now add sambhar powder, turmeric, salt and fry it for a minute or so.
  • Then add the tamarind water and let it boil for 5-10 mins.
  • In the meantime, grind the coconut, green chillies, khuskhus, coriander leaves, garlic and pandharpur dal into fine paste.
  • Now pour the paste into the frying pan and mix for a minute or so. Serve hot with rice, dosas, idlis and even rotis.
