Ingredients

  • 250 g - onion, chopped
  • 250 g - Tomato
  • 2 tbsp - oil
  • 2 tbsp - Chana (Bengal gram) dal
  • 2 tbsp - urad (black gram) dal
  • 12 Cloves Garlic
  • 10 to 12 dry Red Chilli
  • small size Lime - Tamarind
  • salt to taste
  • For Seasoning:
  • 2 tbsp - oil
  • 1 tsp - mustard
  • 1 cup - Methi leaves, chopped

How to Make Tomato Methi Chutney

  • Chop tomatoes and onion.
  • Heat the oil in a kadai. Add both the dals.
  • When they begin to brown, add chillies and garlic.
  • Fry till garlic is dark brown.
  • Add onion, fry till light brown.
  • Add tomato, fry till soft.
  • Cool the mixture and grind with tamarind and salt to a paste.
  • Heat the oil for seasoning.
  • Add mustard. When it splutters, add methi leaves and fry well.
  • Add to the chutney and mix well.
  • Serve as an accompaniment to a meal or with idli or dosa.
