Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup - Egg substitute
  • 3/4 cup - water
  • 1 tbsp - salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp - Canola Oil
  • 1 1/2 tbsp - Honey
  • 1/2 cup - Barley flour
  • 2 1/2 cup - bread flour
  • 1 tsp - Orange peel
  • 1/2 tsp - Cardamom
  • 3 tbsp - non-fat dry Milk
  • 1 tsp - Yeast
  • For the filling
  • 1 toasted Almonds
  • 1 dried apricots; diced
  • How to Make Turkish style Festive Baklana:

    1. Place all the ingredients, except for filling, into the bread machine in the proper order for your machine.
    2. Use dough cycle. As the bread kneads, adjust the liquid-flour ratio if needed.
    3. At the end of the dough cycle, remove dough and place on floured board.
    4. Cover, and let it rest for 20 mins.
    5. Roll out into a rectangle and sprinkle almonds and apricots on top.
    6. Roll up into a loaf, place in greased loaf pan, cover and let it rise for 45 mins.
    7. At the end of rise time, slash down the center, brush with a little beaten egg substitute and milk.
    8. Bake in a pre-heated oven at 375 degree F for 25-30 mins.
    9. Remove bread from pan, place on the rack, and let it cool.
