Ingredients

  • 1 cup - rice flour (fine variety)
  • 2 tbsp - urad dal flour
  • 3/4 tbsp - coconut, grated
  • 2 tbsp - butter
  • 1/2 tbsp - sesame seeds
  • Salt, as required

How to Make Uppu Seedai

  • Dry roast both the flours and sieve them well together.
  • Dry roast the coconut briefly to remove the moisture.
  • Then add it to the flours, along with butter, sesame seeds and salt. Mix well.
  • Add water little by little to form a soft dough.
  • Then roll into small balls - just a little bigger than peas - and arrange on a clean cloth.
  • Let it sit for 1/2 an hour for the moisture to leave.
  • Prick a single hole in each ball with a pin.
  • Heat oil and gently drop the balls in batches.
  • Keep the flame at a medium and fry till golden brown; drain on a kitchen towel or tissue paper.
  • Allow it to cool and store in an airtight container.
