Ingredients

  • 1 cup - raw rice
  • 1/2 cup - grated jaggery
  • 1/2 tsp - cardamom powder
  • 2 tbsp - shredded, sliced fresh coconut pieces
  • 1/4 cup - cooked channa dal
  • A few - cashew nuts

How to Make Vennai Puttu

  • Soak raw rice for 3 hours, grind to a fine paste.
  • Make a jaggery syrup, strain and keep aside
  • Boil 2 cups of water in a heavy bottomed vessel, add the ground paste and cook in medium flame until the paste gets well cooked, stirring continuously
  • Add jaggery syrup, cooked channa dal, cardamom powder, give a stir and cook until it turns into a mass, add the coconut pieces, give a stir and turn off the stove
  • Finally pour this thick mass of rice-jaggery paste to a greased plate, arrange the fried cashew nuts over the prepared vennai puttu; cool.
