Ingredients

  • 500 gm Raw Red Rice
  • 1 Grated Coconut
  • 200 gm Grated Jaggery
  • Salt to taste
  • A little Yeast or toddy
  • Cashewnuts and Plums as required
  • A pinch of Baking Soda
  • How to Make Vivikkam:

    1. Soak the red raw rice for 6 hours. Drain the water and grind along with the grated coconut to make it into a paste.
    2. Add salt to taste and yeast or toddy to ferment it. Keep aside for 6 to 8 hours.
    3. Add grated jaggery, dices of plums, broken sauted cashewnuts and a pinch of baking soda.
    4. Steam it in moulds of medium size, as for idlis.
    5. Serve hot.
