Ingredients

  • 8 cups whole Wheat flour, plus extra for dusting
  • 2 tsp. paprika
  • 1 ¼ cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 stick chilled unsalted butter, diced
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 Egg yolks

How to Make Wholewheat Cheese Straws

  • Mix together the flour and paprika in a bowl, then stir in the cheese.
  • Add the butter and rub in with the fingertips until the mixture resembles the bread crumbs.
  • Stir in the baking powder, then add the egg yolks and mix to a stiff dough.
  • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and press or roll out to about ¼ inch thick.
  • Cut into ½ inch wide straws and place on a baking sheet.
  • Bake in a preheated oven, at 425 degrees F, for 10-12 minutes, until golden.
  • Transfer to a wire rack to cool.
