Ingredients

  • 1 cup - Toor Dal
  • 1 - onion, finely sliced
  • 1 - Green chilli chopped
  • 1 - Tomato finely chopped
  • 1 tsp - mixture of mustard seeds, whole coriander seeds, cumin seeds, Fenugreek seeds.
  • 1/2 tsp - Turmeric
  • 1 tsp - chilli powder
  • 1 tsp - dry Mango powder
  • 1/2 inch - grated Ginger
  • 2 tbsp - cooking oil
  • 2 tbsp - freshly chopped coriander
  • Salt as per taste
  • How to Make Yellow Dal Fry:

    1. Pressure cook dal in 2 cups of water
    2. When the steam subsides mash with a hand beater.
    3. Heat 2 tbsp of oil in a kadai or a saucepan.
    4. Add the mixture of seeds
    5. When the seeds start crackling, add chopped onion, tomato, grated ginger and cook it until soft
    6. Add dry mango powder and a tsp of chilli powder and fry for a minute
    7. Add dal mixture and bring to boil.
    8. Simmer for 5 to 10 mins
    9. Take the dal fry in a serving dish and garnish it with chopped fresh coriander.
    10. Serve this dal fry with roti, rice or pulao
