Green pea

Also known as:
Matar, garden peas.

The pea is a green, pod-shaped vegetable, widely grown as a winter season vegetable crop. It is most commonly the small spherical seed or the seed-pod of the legume Pisum sativum. Each pod contains several peas.

Commonly used in:
Soups, curries, puris, salads, snacks, pickle etc.

Health benefit:
Among other things,green peas are full of  antioxidants and anti-inflammatory nutrients. The fiber helps intestinal motility and may lower the cholesterol. Peas provide iron and protein and are rich in vitamin C, which help maintain the immune system. Peas have lutein, the carotenoid, which helps reduce the risk of age-related macular degeneration and cataracts.
