Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups - Raw rice
  • 1/2 cup - Green gram dhal (whole)
  • 4 - Red chillies
  • Asafoetida - A pinch
  • 1/2 cup - Grated coconut
  • Curry leaves, a few
  • 4 tsp - Oil
  • 1/2 tsp - Mustard
  • Salt to taste

How to Make Arisi Payaru Sundal

  • Fry the rice and green gram dhal separately in a kadai without any oil, till they turn light brown in colour.
  • In a pressure cooker, add the fried rice and dhal and four cups of water along with salt.
  • Pressure cook up to 2-3 whistles.
  • Heat oil in a kadai. Add mustard seeds and allow to splutter.
  • Add asafoetida along with red chillies, curry leaves.
  • Add the cooked rice and dhal mix into the kadai and then add grated coconut and saute for a minute.
  • Serve hot.
