  • 4 eggs
  • 1/3 - cup flour
  • 1/4 cup - cocoa powder
  • 1/4 tsp - baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp - salt
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • For cherry filling:
  • 1/4 cup - sugar
  • 1 tbsp - cornstarch
  • 2 tbsps - water
  • 1 cup - pitted cherries
  • 1 to 2 tsps - cherry liqueur or brandy (optional)

How to Make Black Forest Cherry Cake Roll

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  • Grease a 15 x 10 x 1 inch baking pan. Line the bottom with greased and floured parchment paper.
  • In a bowl stir together flour, cocoa powder, the baking soda, and salt.
  • In another bowl, beat eggs with an electric mixer for 5 minutes.
  • Gradually add sugar, beating until thick. Then fold in the flour mixture.
  • Por batter into prepared pan and spread kit evenly.
  • Bake for 15 minutes.
  • Roll the cake, starting from the short side, and keep it aside to cool for an hour.
  • Meanwhile, prepare the cherry filling. Stir together the sugar and cornstarch in a small saucepan, along with the water.
  • Add cherries and the liquer, and cook over medium heat until thickened and bubbly.
  • Cook and stir for 2 minutes more.
  • Then unroll the cake, spread the cherry filling and roll it up again.
  • Cover and chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours (overnight would be the best).
  • Slice and serve.
