Ingredients

  • 1 cup - boiled, cold rice
  • 1 stalk curry leaves
  • 2 green chillies, slit lengthwise
  • 1 tsp - coriander, finely chopped
  • 3-4 pinches of turmeric powder
  • 2 pinches of asafoetida powder
  • 1/4 tsp - red chilli powder
  • 1/4 tsp - salt or to taste
  • 2-3 pinches of sambar masala (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp - urad dal
  • 1/2 tsp - chana dal
  • 1/4 tsp - each cumin & mustard seeds
  • 1/4 lemon juice extracted
  • 1 tbsp - oil

How to Make Chamka Chawal

  • Loosen rice in a plate till separated.
  • Sprinkle all powdered masalas, except asafoetida, and salt over rice.
  • Drizzle lemon juice over rice.
  • Mix gently with both hands.
  • Heat oil in a pan, add dals, then seeds, and allow them to splutter.
  • Add curry leaves, green chillies, asafoetida, and mix.
  • Add mixed rice and toss gently till well mixed and well heated.
  • Transfer to serving bowl, and garnish with chopped coriander.
  • Serve hot.
