Ingredients

  • 100 gms. chana dal
  • 8 small onions, peeled
  • 2 medium potatoes, peeled and quartered
  • 60 gms. elbow macaroni
  • 2 medium tomatoes, diced
  • 4 green chillies, slitted
  • 1 inch piece ginger, minced
  • 1 tsp. roasted cumin seeds
  • ½ tsp. garam masala
  • 1 tsp. each of ground cumin and coriander seed
  • 1 sour lime, cut into thin wedges
  • 1 small onion, finely sliced
  • Salt and chilli powder to taste

How to Make Chana Dal Stew

  • Put chana dal in 6 cups of water and cook for 20 minutes.
  • Put in whole onions, potatoes, tomatoes, macaroni, salt, chilli powder, coriander and cumin seed powder.
  • Continue cooking until the dal and vegetables are cooked. Sprinkle over top, pepper and roasted cumin seeds and decorate with onion slices, chillies, coriander leaves, ginger and lime wedges.
