Ingredients

  • For the cake:
  • 1.5 cup - all purpose flour
  • 1.5 cup - sugar
  • 1/2 cup - cocoa
  • 1 tsp - salt
  • 1/2 cup - butter
  • 1.5 cup - buttermilk
  • 1 tsp - vanilla essence
  • 2 - eggs
  • For the frosting:
  • 1 cup - sugar
  • 1/2 cup - cocoa
  • 1/2 cup - butter
  • 1/2 cup - milk
  • 1 tbsp - corn syrup,
  • 1.5 cup - castor sugar
  • 1 tsp - vanilla essence.

How to Make Cocoa Fudge Cake

  • In a bowl, mix together flour, sugar, cocoa and salt. Add butter, buttermilk and vanilla essence and beat well for several mins until all the ingredients have blended well.
  • Add the eggs. Beat well again for several mins
  • Grease and lightly flour a baking pan and pour the mixture into it. Heat the oven to 350 degree F and bake for about 45 mins. Meanwhile prepare the quick fudge frosting.
  • Mix both the sugars and cocoa in a saucepan and stir in butter, milk and corn syrup.
  • Place it on medium heat and bring to a boil, stirring constantly
  • Remove from heat and immerse the pan in cold water
  • Add the vanilla essence and stir well.
  • When the cake is ready cool it on a wire rack
  • Pour the fudge frost, which should be of a fairly thick consistency, and still warm, on top of the cake. Let it run down the sides
  • Smooth over evenly on top and around sides with a palette knife. Let set for a few mins
