  • 1 bunch - fresh spinach
  • A handful - split moong dal
  • 1 - medium onion, chopped
  • 1 inch piece - ginger, julienned
  • 4 cloves - garlic, chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp - red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp - coriander powder
  • 1 tsp - garam masala

How to Make Dal with Spinach

  • Pressure cook spinach and dal along with a cup of water and 1/2 tsp of salt for 10 mins.
  • When pressure drops, mash the mixture well with the back of a spoon or a potato masher (do not use a food processor).
  • The mixture should have a creamy consistency with a little bit of water left in it.
  • Add a couple tablespoons cooking oil to a frying pan and fry the onions, garlic and ginger until golden.
  • Lower the heat, add chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala, stir for a few seconds, then add the spinach mixture.
  • Check the salt and add more if needed.
  • Stir over medium heat until the dish becomes creamy
  • Serve.
