  • 3/4 cup - Foxtail millet/Thinai
  • 1/4 cup - Yellow moong dal
  • 1.25 cup - Jaggery
  • 1/4 tsp - Cardamom powder
  • 3 tbsp - Ghee
  • Few cashews
  • A pinch Edible camphor (pacha karpooram)

How to Make Foxtail Millet Sweet Pongal

  • Dry roast the foxtail millet and moong dal together.
  • Wash and pressure cook with 3 cups of water till 4 whistles and put off the stove.
  • Boil jaggery in half a cup of water.
  • Strain it and keep it aside.
  • Once the steam gets released from the cooker, add the jaggery syrup to the cooked millet and dal mixture, mash it and cook for few more minutes.
  • Add cardamom powder, edible camphor and put off the stove.
  • Heat ghee and fry the cashews until they turn golden brown.
  • Transfer immediately to the sweet pongal and stir.
