  • Hilsa Fillets 4 nos (each 500gms by weight)
  • Mustard oil 80 gms
  • Mustard paste 75gms
  • Kalonji (Onion Seeds) 2gms
  • Turmeric Powder 1 tsp
  • Red chilli powder 5gms
  • Sugar 5 gms
  • Salt To taste
  • Banana leaves 4 no (6inch square) (Cut it into squares and put on hot griddle for ½ a minute to make it soft)

How to Make Iilish Maacher Paturi

  • Cut and clean the fish fillets (Boneless pieces of approx 4 inch square).
  • Marinate it with half the mustard oil, Kalonji, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, & salt. Keep aside for an hour.
  • Now add mustard paste, sugar & remaining mustard oil.
  • Adjust the seasoning & again keep aside for half an hour.
  • Take individual fish pieces & wrap it in banana leaves. Pierce with tooth picks so that they do not open.
  • Put it in the steamer for 5-8 minutes or until the fish is cooked.
  • Serve hot.
