  • 1 cup - basmati rice
  • 2 - onions, medium sized, sliced
  • 2 - tomatoes, chopped finely
  • 1.5 tsp - red chilli powder (or depending on your taste)
  • 1 inch - cinnamon
  • 3 - cloves
  • 2 - bay leaves
  • 1 whole - black cardamom
  • 1 tsp - ginger garlic paste
  • 1 small cup - green peas (optional)
  • 1/4 bunch - cilantro or coriander leaves, chopped fine.

How to Make Jassy Tomato Rice

  • Heat oil in a pan or a pressure cooker.
  • Season with bay leaves, cloves, cinnamon and cardamom.
  • When the cloves pop, put in the sliced onions and fry till light brown.
  • Add the chopped tomatoes and fry well till the tomatoes are soft.
  • Put in the ginger garlic paste and the red chilli powder and fry well.
  • Add the washed rice, green peas (optional), cilantro, salt to taste and the required amount of water. Mix well and allow it to cook till the rice is done.
  • Serve hot with onion, tomato and cucumber raitha.
